Barrier Islands Center Carving Classes

P.G. is teaching decoy making classes at the BIC in an effort to hand down the tradition that he has been lucky enough to inherit from past carvers and the modern day likes of Grayson Chesser, Pete Peterson and Kenny Marshall.

Kids classes have included making an old-school "flattie" yellowlegs shorebird decoy and making a cork bufflehead gunning decoy that can be hunted over.  These classes include file or rasps that can be taken home at the end of the course. Students are supervised while using a "shaving horse" and drawknife and spokeshave.

Adult classes will include design, carving and painting aspects of traditional style gunning decoys.
